How to plan your elopement to be eventful and memorable

Congratulations on deciding to elope!

Your elopement day is unique and special, so here's a list of fun activities to consider to make it unforgettable:

Picnic: Eat something DURING your elopement! A picnic is beautiful way to avoid becoming hangry on your special day! Andrew and I did this and we couldn’t be more happy that we did!

Even if it’s just snacks; do it!

Ours were Little Debbie fancy cakes (as our “wedding cake” of course) Gushers placed in a fancy little glass dish (as… part of our personalities haha) and fudge rounds!

Do a 1st dance! I suggested that we play Adam and Melanie’s 1st dance song that had planned to use at their reception back home in Michigan. Adam worried for a moment that it was going to be too emotional… but look at him. =) He was happy it happened. And ya know what never did end up happening; their reception they planned for a year after the elopement. So, they got their 1st dance to their special song… that they otherwise would have never had!

  • Have your unity ceremony activity. Use tradition at your elopement! Andrew and I did a unity painting- make it however creative YOU want!

  • Cheers a beer, some champagne or wine to celebrate!

  • Go for an epic walk during sunset

  • Write your names & elopement date in the sand!

Here’s a list of some more ‘practical’ parts of planning your elopememnt!

1. Choose an Ideal Location: Select a breathtaking location that reflects your love story. Whether it's a serene beach, a picturesque mountaintop, or a charming city street, find a spot that resonates with your personalities.
2. Get a Marriage License: Make sure to research the legal requirements for elopements in the destination you've chosen. Obtain a marriage license beforehand to ensure that everything is legally binding.
3. Plan the Ceremony: Decide whether you want a simple exchange of vows or a more elaborate ceremony. Plan the details, such as if you'll have any guests, whether to hire an officiant or have a friend or family member preside over the ceremony, and whether to incorporate any traditions or rituals.
4. Capture the Day: Hire a professional elopement photographer to chronicle your special day. Discuss with them the type of shots you'd like and scout locations for the best photo opportunities. These are the photographs you will treasure and keep the memories of your elopement alive.
5. Arrange Transportation: Make sure you have a reliable mode of transportation for the day. Whether it's a fancy car, a horse-drawn carriage, or even bicycles, choose something that adds an extra touch of charm to your elopement.
6. Prepare Attire: Find attire that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Consider the climate and location when selecting your outfits. Don't forget to include any accessories you may need, such as a veil, bouquet, or boutonniere.
7. Write Personal Vows: Spend time reflecting on your relationship and write heartfelt vows that express your love and commitment to each other. Share these words during the ceremony to make your elopement even more personal and meaningful.
8. Arrange for Witnesses (if required): Some jurisdictions may require witnesses for your ceremony. Find out if this is necessary and, if so, make arrangements with friends or family members who will be present on your elopement day.
9. Plan a Post-Ceremony Celebration: After saying "I do," celebrate your newly wedded status. This could be a romantic dinner at a nearby restaurant, a picnic in a scenic spot, or a champagne toast on the beach. Enjoy this special moment together.
